A candlelight vigil for a Burnaby girl who died following a tragic accident on Sunday in Port Coquitlam will be held Friday (April 24) at Port Moody's Rocky Point Park.
Kianna Maunder-Moreau, six, was with her mother and was one of four pedestrians hit by a woman who lost control of her Honda CRV at Shaughnessy Street and Lions Way in PoCo on Sunday, April 19.
Maunder-Moreau died of her injuries the following day; her mother, who is now recovering at home, was by her side.
A GoFundMe.com fundraiser has raised nearly $21,000 for the family and a vigil will be held at 8:30 p.m. today at Rocky Point. Those attending are asked to bring a candle, Chinese lanterns and/or balloons.
Coquitlam RCMP and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (ICARS) are investigating the collision but it's not known yet whether there were any contributing factors.
The driver of the CRV, a Coquitlam woman in her 40s, has a learner's permit and police have confirmed she was abiding by the conditions of that licence at the time of the collision. She was not injured and is co-operating with police.
Witnesses who haven't yet spoken to police are asked to call 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2015-12195, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via www.solvecrime.ca.
