Campaign signs for Lourence Singh were still standing in New West on Wednesday morning even though his name was removed from the Conservative Party's list of candidates on Tuesday night.

Nearly 200 people have signed an online petition calling on Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre to keep Lourence Singh as the party’s federal candidate in New Westminster-Burnaby-Maillardville.

In a statement to the Record, the Conservative Party of Canada confirmed Singh was no longer a candidate in the April 28 federal election. On Tuesday morning, Singh’s name was still listed as a candidate on the party’s website, but it was no longer there that night.

Singh has launched a petition on change.org calling on members of the Conservative National Council and Poilievre to keep him as the candidate in New Westminster-Burnaby-Maillardville.

The petition — dated April 1 — had been signed by 195 people as of 5 p.m. on April 2.

“We are writing to strongly endorse Lourence Singh’s continued bid as the Conservative Party candidate for New Westminster-Burnaby-Maillardville. Lourence has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the party’s values and an exceptional commitment to serving his riding,” said the petition. “His appeal as an affable individual to the broader electorate make him a formidable candidate who can bring a fresh, dynamic perspective to Parliament.”

Singh’s petition states that his efforts in engaging with residents, small business owners, and community organizations “have not gone unnoticed” and he has worked tirelessly to address concerns around affordability, economic growth, and public safety issues that “resonate deeply” with the people in the riding.

“His ability to connect with voters from diverse backgrounds, particularly the growing Indian and Filipino communities, has strengthened our party’s presence and support in this key electoral district,” said Singh’s petition.

The petition offers no explanation about the reason Singh is no longer the Conservative candidate in New Westminster-Burnaby-Maillardville.

The Record has contacted the Conservative Party of Canada and Singh for comment about his removal as the party’s candidate in New Westminster-Burnaby-Maillardville. In a text message to sister publication BIV, Singh said a reason for his removal was provided to him but he did not offer it up when asked.
