The victim of Tuesday morning's homicide in Port Coquitlam has been identified as 38-year-old Andra Ghiorghita.
Her husband, 38-year-old Irinei Catalin Ghiorghita, has been charged with second-degree murder.
Police were called to the townhouse complex on Davies Avenue at 8:45 a.m. for reports of an unresponsive woman. Paramedics and firefighters were unable to revive the woman and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbour Asha Dickinson told The Tri-City News that officers banged on the front door and shouted, "Everybody on your knees," as they broke down the front door.
S/Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said a man was arrested on murder-related charges but couldn't say whether he was arrested at the scene.
A neighbour said the family living in the unit are renters and have a young boy. He's been in Romania with his grandparents for part of the summer.
Andra Ghiorghita was working towards her Certified General Accountant designation and was working as an accountant at Imperial Metals Corporation.
Irinei Ghiorghita made his first appearance at BC Provincial Court in Port Coquitlam Wednesday afternoon and will next be in court on July 31.
