Tri-City campaign offices open as election call expected Sunday

With Prime Minister Mark Carney expected to call the federal election on March 23, 2025, Tri-City candidates are readying for the writ drop.

With the federal election call expected on Sunday, Tri-City candidates are readying for the writ drop by opening campaign offices, powering up phone banks, knocking on doors and hosting events.

On March 19, Port Moody-Coquitlam MP Bonita Zarrillo opened a joint campaign office at 1199 Austin Ave. with Laura Dupont, a former Port Coquitlam councillor facing Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam MP Ron McKinnon.

The launch drew about 50 people including MP Peter Julian, MLAs Jennifer Blatherwick and Jodie Wickens, former MP and MLA Fin Donnelly, former MLA John Cashore and Coquitlam Coun. Matt Djonlic.

Conservative candidate Iain Black, who is also seeking McKinnon’s seat, will open his campaign office on March 22 at 4 p.m. at 32-2755 Lougheed Hwy., Port Coquitlam; former MP James Moore will speak.

And, Paul Lambert, the Conservative contender in Port Moody-Coquitlam, will host a Women’s Priorities townhall for constituents on March 30 at 3 p.m. at The One Sixty Wine Bar and Cafe; the gathering will be attended by Senator Yonah Martin. Tickets are via Eventbrite.ca.

Meanwhile, on March 20, Julian, the MP for the new riding of New Westminster-Burnaby-Maillardville, met with the Korean community and gained backing from supporters, including Sophia Kwon of The Garden of Compassion Society and Green Smart Tech CEO Bryan Oh.
