Tri-City actors win eight out of 25 roles in TIC's 'Anastasia'

Tickets are now on sale to see "Anastasia," a Theatre In the Country production that runs June 5 to 22, 2024, in Langley.

Eight Tri-City actors are cast in the next Theatre in the Country (TIC) show, a romantic production about Imperial Russia.

From June 5 to 22, the company presents Anastasia, a story about a Russian princess named Anya who has no memory of the past or the revolution.

Based on the film, the stage performance features the following local actors (in no particular order):

  • Sophia Pollock, Port Coquitlam 
    • understudy to Anya and ensemble (street sweeper, Parisian, usher, reporter)
  • Brontë Gooselaw, Coquitlam
    • female lead swing, dance captain and ensemble (aristocrat, street sweeper, Swan 1)
  • Justine Simoes, Port Coquitlam
    • featured ensemble swing and ensemble (street sweeper, traveller, Sergei, reporter)
  • Raphael Tolentino, Coquitlam
    • featured dancer and ensemble (aristocrat, Rothbart)

TIC’s artistic director Reg Parks said 114 actors auditioned for the 25 roles — the biggest turnout in the company’s history.

As well, Jayda Grant of Coquitlam is the musical director of the show while Maureen Robertson of PoCo is making her debut as the costume designer.

"This is an epic tale that gives the viewer a unique personal perspective on a dark time in history," Parks said in a news release.

"With unforgettable characters and timeless themes, 'Anastasia' is a musical experience like no other. Audiences can expect an evening of enchantment, laughter, and heartwarming moments that will stay with them long after the final curtain falls.”
