Kidsport

Suit up your family for sports at the spring KidSport equipment sale, on from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverside Secondary (2215 Reeve St., Port Coquitlam). Admission is by donation or with a non-perishable food item for the SHARE food bank.

Festival du Bois

It’s the 36th year of Festival du Bois and the Maillardville’s music and culture party lineup starts at 12:30 p.m. under the Big Tent at Mackin Park (1046 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam). The francophone program includes tunes from La Patente, Alouest, the Jocelyn Pettit Band, La Déferlance and LeFLOFRANCO and wraps up with a special 50th anniversary show from the Quebec icon Yves Lambert et Le Grand Orchestre. Activities are also on today from noon to 3:45 p.m. in the children’s tent, and there are workshops across the road at Mackin House. Admission for kids ages 12 and under is free. The Tri-City News is a media sponsor of the event.

Chess club

Families can drop into the Poirier branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (575 Poirier St.) from 2 to 3:30 p.m. to try their hand at chess. There is no cost to attend. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Legion dance

Cut a rug at the Coquitlam branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (1025 Ridgeway Ave., Coquitlam) with the band O’Toole’s. The music starts at 7 p.m.

Oscar Wilde

The Importance of Being Earnest, a play penned by British writer Oscar Wilde in 1895, is the 2025 offering from students at Archbishop Carney Regional High School in Port Coquitlam. The show is directed by drama teacher Charles Harris and runs at the Terry Fox Theatre (1260 Riverwood Gate, Port Coquitlam) at 7 p.m. Tickets are $18.

Jewison tribute

The Port Moody Film Society rolls a tribute this weekend to the Canadian director Norman Jewison, at the Inlet Theatre (inside Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr.). Tonight, the society rolls Brother at 7 p.m. and I Like Movies at 9:15 p.m. Admission is $5 per film, plus an annual society membership of $5.

High school musical

Catch a performance of The Drowsy Chaperone, a production by musical theatre students at Heritage Woods Secondary (1300 David Ave., Port Moody) at 7:30 p.m. The production featuring a cast of 35 students is directed and choreographed by Heritage graduate Julia Maclean.

Salsa night

Join the Salsa Dance Zone instructors Alberto Gonzalez and Teresa Szefler for a lesson at the Port Coquitlam Legion (2675 Shaughnessy St.) at 8 p.m. followed by a Latin dance party until midnight. Admission is $15. No partner is needed.
