Contra dance

Kick off the 36th annual Festival du Bois, Maillardville’s music and culture gathering, with a free contra dance. Featuring the Sybaritic String Band and caller Katie Pinter, the dance is from 8 to 9:15 p.m. under the Big Tent at Mackin Park (1048 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam). The band Collage Trad will start at 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. Registration is required.

Oscar Wilde

The Importance of Being Earnest, a play penned by British writer Oscar Wilde in 1895, is the 2025 offering from students at Archbishop Carney Regional High School in Port Coquitlam. The show is directed by drama teacher Charles Harris and runs at the Terry Fox Theatre (1260 Riverwood Gate, Port Coquitlam) at 7 p.m. Tickets are $18.

Otosan

The Little Onion Puppet Company delivers Otosan, a show created by Shizuka Kai, Jess Amy Shead and Randi Edmundson, at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12.

Express hockey

Pull on your Coquitlam Express jersey to support the hockey team on home ice as it battles the Chilliwack Chiefs at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam) at 7 p.m.

Create a self-portrait at Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) at a pARTy@PdA event for adults only. A cash bar will be open for the event that starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 for a pair. Supplies are included.

Legion dance

Cut a rug at the Coquitlam branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (1025 Ridgeway Ave., Coquitlam) with the band O’Toole’s. The music starts at 7 p.m.

High school musical

Catch a performance of The Drowsy Chaperone, a production by musical theatre students at Heritage Woods Secondary (1300 David Ave., Port Moody) at 7:30 p.m. The production featuring a cast of 35 students is directed and choreographed by Heritage graduate Julia Maclean.

Jewison tribute

The Port Moody Film Society rolls a tribute this weekend to the Canadian director Norman Jewison, at the Inlet Theatre (inside Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr.). Tonight, the society rolls In the Heat of the Night, starring Sidney Poitier, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 plus an annual society membership of $5.

Youth Rock 'N' Bowl

An unforgettable night of music, bowling and community spirit, as local youth bands take the stage to showcase their incredible talent at Poco Bowl. This is a perfect event for youth aged 12-19 to enjoy a safe, fun environment, whether they're with friends, family, or flying solo.

With two hours of bowling, two slices of pizza, a drink, and live performances from two awesome local bands (each playing 45-minute sets), it's sure to be a night filled with great vibes and memories. Plus, prizes, community sponsors, and more make this event a must-attend. Tickets are $25 each. The nine-week event runs every Friday night until May 2.
