There’s never been a better time to support Canadian talent.
That’s the message from Aaron Arya, the founder of Jokers Canada, a stand-up comedy business that’s returning to the Tri-Cities in March.
The Vancouver resident has two shows lined up for Port Moody and Port Coquitlam:
- a March 1 date at the Inlet Theatre (inside Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr.)
- a March 14 gig for the Terry Fox Theatre (next to Terry Fox Secondary, 1260 Riverwood Gate in PoCo)
And he’s got stand-up acts who are not only well-known — having performed for Just For Laughs, Canada’s Got Talent and Disney+ — but also local: Comedian Ed Hill, who grew up in Coquitlam and graduated from Pinetree Secondary School, will appear at the Port Moody show.
“It is always a pleasure to perform in the City of the Arts,” Hill told the Tri-City News. “It is in Port Moody where I learned the art of patience because there’s nothing that takes more time than trying to find a parking spot at Rocky Point Park.”
Arya said he’s booking comedians who wouldn’t normally swing by the Tri-Cities.
Ryan Williams, who will be in Port Coquitlam on March 14, has appeared on CBC Radio’s The Debaters and Laugh Out Loud, the Winnipeg Comedy Fest and was a finalist in Sirius XM’s Canada’s top comic contest.
“Nothing fills me with more Canadian pride than coming back to the hometown of Terry Fox,” Williams said. “[I’m] excited to be back in PoCo and working with Jokers Canada again.”
As for Jokers Canada’s 2025 schedule, Arya said he’s taking his team on the road this spring with performances in Kimberley, Invermere and Creston, as well as around the Lower Mainland and the Sunshine Coast.
As well, this fall, Cranbrook, Nelson and three spots in Ontario are on the program plus two dates in Alberta.
“The support we’ve had in and around Vancouver over the past few years has been incredible,” Arya said. “It has allowed us to grow our business brick by brick and bring in out-of-town comedians. We’ve tapped into B.C. talent, too, which we want to showcase across Canada on our tour, so it’s a great time to see Canadian talent and we are excited to be positioned well, considering what’s happening in our world today.”
Here’s who’s announced so far for the Port Moody Comedy Classic on Saturday, March 1:
- Ola Dada ( Canada's Got Talent)
