Scouts drive
The 9th Port Coquitlam Scouts will host a bottle drive to raise money for operations and camping activities next year. Take your empty bottles and cans to Birchland Elementary School (1331 Fraser Ave., Port Coquitlam) between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Coquitlam tree chip
Bring your Christmas tree in for chipping at a fundraiser hosted by the Coquitlam Kin. Its 37th annual drive-through event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Lot A of Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) and is by donation. Empty bottle donations are also accepted.

PoCo tree chip
Haul your Christmas tree to the City of Port Coquitlam’s Firehall No. 1 (1725 Broadway St.) where, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., firefighters will turn decorated-free trees until mulch and chips. The cost of the drop-off is a minimum $10 donation to the Port Coquitlam Firefighters Charitable Society. PoCo residents can also request a pick-up from their home, for a minimum $20 donation, for disposal.

PoMo tree chip
Port Moody firefighters will chip undecorated Christmas trees at a drive-through fundraiser for the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund. The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Inlet Centre fire hall (150 Newport Dr., Port Moody). The cost is a minimum $5 donation; coffee and hot chocolate will be served to patrons. Recycle it
Port Moody residents can drop off gift wrapping paper, boxes, Styrofoam, packaging and plastic film from the holidays at the parking lot of the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Rd.) for the city’s annual Centralized Recycling Day, on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Styrofoam and plastic film must be bagged separately, and ribbons, bows, foil gift wrap, glass and household garbage are banned.

Best bottle drive
Bring your empty bottles and cans from the holidays to Dr. Charles Best Secondary in Coquitlam (2525 Como Lake Ave.) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the school's after-grad fundraiser. Have your refundables in clear blue bags for donation. Alternatively, drop them off at a bottle refund depot using the kiosk code 604-561-2152.

Repair café
Don’t throw out your torn clothing or broken toaster. Instead, bring your broken household items to the City of Port Coquitlam’s monthly Repair Café where, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., volunteers will fix small items at the public works yard (1737 Broadway St.). Donations are welcome.

Salsa moves
Join Coquitlam’s Salsa Dance Zone for a beginners dance class at 8 p.m. at the Port Coquitlam legion (2675 Shaughnessy St.) then party to the Latin beats from 9 p.m. to midnight. Parking is free. Admission is $15 at the door. The event is suitable for ages 19 and older.
