Fast as lightning

The Port Coquitlam Lightning speed skating club is hosting its inter club meet all day at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre. More than 130 skaters from across the province will compete in the short track events, with some aiming to secure a place at the 2024 BC Winter Games in Quesnel. Admission is free.

 

Check mate

New or experienced chess players are invited to try their hand with game opponents at the Poirier branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (575 Poirier St.) from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Chess sets will be provided.

Lights at Lafarge

The magical Coca-Cola holiday caravan rolls into Coquitlam — filled with holiday gifts from Santa — for Lights at Lafarge at Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). The Park Spark team hosts the activity from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Legion music

Take to the dance floor at the Royal Canadian Legion branch 263 in Coquitlam (1025 Ridgeway Ave.) as Under Fire hits the stage at 7 p.m.

Pull on your Coquitlam Express jersey to support the local hockey team as it meets Alberni Valley on home ice: the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.). The game starts at 7 p.m.

Wintersongs, holiday classics

Hear Canadian singer–songwriter Laila Biali perform as part of the Inlet Theatre Music Series at Inlet Theatre inside Port Moody City Hall (100 Newport Dr.) at 7:30 p.m. Biali’s show includes fellow Juno award-winner Jane Bunnett on saxophone and flute and other special guests: Rebekah Wolkstein on violin, Katrina Chitty on viola, Dan Fortin on bass and Ben Wittman on drums. Operation Red Nose

If you’re out tonight and need a safe ride home, call the volunteers at Operation Red Nose Tri-Cities — an organization that supports KidSport Tri-Cities to help families register their children in sports. A driver and navigator will drive you home in your own vehicle while an escort driver in another car follows behind to collect the volunteers afterwards. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 3 a.m.
