Nature challenge

Join the City of Port Moody’s nature challenge, which begins today with an education walk along the Shoreline Trail at Rocky Point Park (2800-block of Murray Street) at 8 a.m. The second challenge is from 9 to 11 a.m. to explore the fish at Noons Creek (340 Ioco Rd.) while the third challenge is the Heron Walk, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting from the Port Moody Recreation Complex (300 Ioco Rd.).

Treasure hunting

Tour Port Coquitlam to find cheap deals of second-hand wares in the 15th annual citywide garage sale. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at registered homes. A sale for multi-family home residents is in the parking lot at the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre (1379 Laurier St.) and in the parking lot at Gates Park (2300 Reeve St.).

Repair Café

Don’t dump your ripped goods in the landfill: Take your broken household items to be fixed up by volunteers at the Repair Café, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dogwood Pavilion (1655 Winslow Ave., Coquitlam).

Salmon Leave Home

Say goodbye to the Chum salmon at the Hoy Creek hatchery (south of Douglas College) as the Coquitlam society hosts its annual Salmon Leave Home festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The family-friendly event is happening rain or shine.

Earth Week

Learn about Mother Earth at a City of Port Coquitlam celebration from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lions Park (2300 Lions Way, Port Coquitlam). The first 50 PoCo residents will receive a free tree to plant in their yards; proof of residence is required. Rain water barrels will be available for purchase from the city. City staff and community volunteers will also have booths and food trucks will be on site.

Food fest

Bring your appetite to Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) for the Greater Vancouver Food Truck Festival's Coquitlam Community Fest, happening today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. More than a dozen food trucks will be on site for the party, which also includes games, scavenger hunts and a vendors market. Tickets are by donation via Eventbrite.ca.

Safe babies

Parents and caregivers can get their child car seat checked at a drive-thru clinic hosted by Coquitlam RCMP and ICBC. The event takes place in the southeastern parking lot of Coquitlam Centre mall (2900-block of Barnet Highway, Coquitlam) near the Pinetree Way and Anson Avenue intersection. Certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) educators II will be on hand for inspections and education. Appointments are recommended. Drop-in attendees will be seen at a first-come first-serve basis. Bring your child, car and booster seat for proper fitting.

Join the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce and hundreds of entrepreneurs and community leaders at the 2024 Business Excellence Awards Gala. Presented by Douglas College, the event from 6 p.m. to midnight takes place in The Show Theatre at the Great Canadian Casino (2080 United Blvd., Coquitlam).

Elephant Man

The story of the life of John Merrick, who was born with rare skin and bone diseases, comes to life at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way) at 7:30 p.m. — courtesy of Stage 43 Theatrical Society. Written by Bernard Pomerance, the Elephant Man is the last play of the season for the Coquitlam company. Tickets are $28/$24/$18.

Live music

Folk/rock musician and JUNO Award nominee Roy Forbes brings his guitar to Port Moody for the final show of the season for the Inlet Theatre Music Series, at Inlet Theatre in Port Moody (100 Newport Dr.). The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
