For two weeks, until Dec. 31, the Tri-City News looks back on some of our favourite photos from 2024.
Each day, we are posting one image along with commentary about what it took to get that photo and the story it conveys.
Thirty years ago, the Tri-City News had a team of six photojournalists at its disposal to cover events and tell stories seven days a week.
Times have changed and there are fewer telephoto lenses in the newsroom.
Fortunately, we can still call upon Jennifer Gauthier, one of the most versatile and talented freelancers still able to cobble together a living with her camera.
While she’s able to fill in the gaps covering community events, like opening night at Lights at Lafarge, we no longer have the manpower to get to, she’s also filed international stories for Reuters and even the New York Times.
So, if Gauthier happens to come up to you at a local event to ask for your name because she’s taken your photo, know that you’re in excellent hands.
