Top change for Coquitlam nonprofit that runs Festival du Bois

Pooja Parsan, who is originally from Mauritius, joined Société francophone de Maillardville last fall after taking part in Festival du Bois and community projects.

A nonprofit group in Coquitlam that runs Festival du Bois has a new leader.

Société francophone de Maillardville announced today, July 8 that Pooja Parsan will take over from Joanne Dumas when she retires at the end of July.

Dumas served as the organization’s executive and artistic director for 28 years.

“I am leaving the SFM with the confidence that the team in place, under the leadership of Pooja, will continue the emancipation of our francophone community here in Maillardville,” Dumas stated in a release.

Based at 200-936 Brunette Ave., Société francophone de Maillardville was founded in 1983 to provide activities and services to French-speaking people around the Lower Mainland.

Parsan, who is originally from Mauritius, joined SFM last fall after taking part in Festival du Bois and other community projects.

Meanwhile, at its 40th annual general meeting on June 19, members elected Benoit Brisson as SFM's president.

A communications specialist, Brisson will join the new board made up of:
