Three vehicles were impounded in less than 14 hours for excessive speeding, two of them happening less than 90 minutes apart.

Coquitlam RCMP were checking for speeders on the Mary Hill Bypass on Wednesday night when they clocked one driver at 124 km/h and another, in less than 90 minutes, at 129 km/h. Both were in a 60 km/h zone.

And on Thursday morning officers on Lougheed Highway, near Colony Farm Road, stopped a drvier doing 122 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

"Some drivers have to realize driving at 50 to 70 km/h above the speed limit is not just a dangerous thing to do, but it's deadly," said Cpl. Jamie Chung. "Law abiding drivers will not be able to judge time and distance with an approaching vehicle that is traveling at twice the speed limit."

Chung emphasized that driving at faster speeds means it will take longer to stop. "If someone made a turn in front of you or the lights turned red, you wouldn't be able to stop safely."

Each of the drivers got $368 tickets and had their vehicles impounded for at least seven days.
