MR MIKES SteakhouseCasual, including its Coquitlam location, is raising funds that'll help feed hungry students through a new initiative that includes a featured menu.

More Coquitlam school-aged kids and youth are set to be nourished thanks to a restaurant's new initiative.

MR MIKES SteakhouseCasual is creating "feature" dishes in which proceeds will be donated to Toonies for Tummies, a campaign by The Grocery Foundation that provides funding for local student nutrition, breakfast and lunch programs.

Guests can request the current Toonies for Tummies plate or add $1 to any meal to participate in the fundraiser, explained a statement from the nation-wide business.

As well, on MR MIKES Day on Friday, Sept. 20, $2 from every honey whiskey BBQ bacon MIKEBurger will also be donated to the cause.

MR MIKES' Coquitlam location is in Pinetree Village at 2991 Lougheed Hwy. — next to Chapters and east of Coquitlam Centre.

It's one of 46 SteakhouseCasuals across Canada, 17 in B.C., all of which are taking part in the campaign.

"At MR MIKES, we believe in giving back to the communities that have supported us over the years," said spokesperson Taili Coates in a news release.

"By partnering with Toonies for Tummies and launching our fall feature campaign, we aim to help address a critical issue and help ensure that the estimated one in three children in our communities who may be at risk of going to school on an empty stomach start their day with a nutritious meal.

"[...] it's an opportunity for guests to make a tangible difference in their communities."

According to its latest data, Toonies for Tummies has collected $4 million to provide meals to more than 140,000 children across Canada.

MR MIKES is owned and operated by RAMMP Hospitality Brands Inc., and opened its first-ever location in Vancouver in 1960.

For more information and full dine-in and take-out menus, you can visit the restaurant's website.
