The 7-Eleven at 105-3380 David Ave., in Coquitlam, closes on Thursday, Oct. 10 — one of 13 7-Eleven shops to close in Metro Vancouver.

A convenience store on Coquitlam’s Burke Mountain is about to close up shop.

7-Eleven, which has a unit at 105-3380 David Ave., will close its doors on Oct. 10, 2024 — one of 13 7-Elevens in Metro Vancouver to fold this month.

A request for comment from 7-Eleven was not immediately returned.

The news comes after the company announced in August it is also considering shuttering 10 of its stores in Winnipeg due to concerns about crime and employee safety.

And it comes a month after the Japanese owner of 7-Eleven rejected Quebec’s Couche-Tard takeover bid.

7-Eleven was one of the first retailers on Burke Mountain as the northeastern area was being developed.

The commercial corner at David Avenue and Coast Meridian Road also includes:

  • Hiraku Sushi
  • Shoppers Drug Mart
  • TD Canada Trust
  • Subway
  • Sedation Dental Group
  • Foothills Medical Centre
  • Noura Homes
  • Johnston Meier Insurance

Besides the few retail amenities on Burke Mountain, which is expected to swell to 50,000 residents in 20 years, it also has an IBEX Café and Kitchen at 3537 Princeton Ave., in the Burke Mountain Discovery Centre.

In the next few years, a large retail hub will be constructed at Burke Mountain Village in the Partington Creek neighbourhood, next to a new recreation centre and park.
