Citadel Heights mailboxes were once again the target of thieves.
On Monday, Coquitlam RCMP received several calls at around noon to report a theft of mail, though it's not known exactly how many boxes were broken into or if they were all contained in one super mailbox.
"Somehow, they were able to get into the mailbox and they took a whole bunch of mail and left in a hurry," said Cpl. Jamie Chung. "They may have used some sort of force to get into the box but the exact nature is unknown."
Chung recommended people check their mail every day and sign up for e-billing to minimize the number of sensitive documents you receive in the mail.
He also asked that people call 911 if they see anything suspicious happening around a mailbox.
Citadel Heights super mailboxes have been targeted a number of times over the years.
One resident, who asked not to be identified, reported in 2008 that a cluster of boxes in his neighbourhood had been hit three times in just one month.
In the spring of 2006, police showed off a huge cache of stolen goods, including weapons, mailbox keys, Canada Post uniforms and several pieces of mail and IDs, that were recovered from a Port Coquitlam house.
Less than a year earlier, Canada Post issued an alert after a rash of mailbox break-ins in Citadel Heights.
And in 2004, a sudden spike in mail theft in Citadel and Ranch Park prompted Canada Post to replace the locks on nearly 250 community mailboxes.
