Dots and Dashes Safety Company of Port Moody has launched a safety product which when applied to any outer wear or gear could save a life this wet, rainy season.
"Prevention is better than medical intervention," says Claire Lawrence, a registered nurse. "Every accident affects our community profoundly."
Dots and Dashes Safety Reflectors will be sold through the schools, clubs and organizations as a fundraising item. Dots and Dashes Safety Reflectors were first introduced to the community at the Port Moody Safety Fair in September. The product has been in demand ever since, according to a press release.
"I have two valuable kits which I am selling: Personal Reflector Kits and Gear Reflector Kits. Each kit contains an assortment of high quality, self adhesive reflectors."
"Personal Reflector Kits have 20 different reflectors for clothing, boots, runners, and umbrella canopies. Gear Reflector Kits are meant for strollers, walking canes, bikes and any land or water vehicle. Either kit sells for $10. As a fundraising item, I will give 20% back to the school or organization on the purchase of every kit," Lawrence adds.
Kits can be purchased individually online, but the greatest value occurs when a community decides to make safety a priority and purchase in bulk.
"Every year 3,800 pedestrians and cyclists are struck while traveling along our roads. Many of these accidents might have been prevented had the person been visible to the driver. By applying Dots and Dashes Safety Reflectors to outer clothing and gear, drivers can see you from as far away as 300-500m away."
Dots and Dashes Safety Company was named for the Morse code signal- SOS.
