A Belcarra resident who’s led the Terry Fox Foundation since 2014 will take another top charity role.
This week, the Canucks Autism Network (CAN) announced Britt Andersen will start as its chief executive officer on June 24.
CAN provides sports and recreation programs to individuals and families living with autism; it has 28 staff in Vancouver and more than 600 volunteers.
“I am thrilled and honoured to accept this position and simply cannot wait to get to work,” Andersen said in a news release. “I look forward to the new challenges this role offers and hope to make an immediate and positive impact on delivering CAN’s vision of understanding, acceptance and support for every individual with autism in all community spaces.”
Andersen has a history in the charitable sector, having held senior posts at Coast Mental Health and the Canadian Blood Services; he also serves on several non-profit boards and is a 15-year firefighter with the Sasamat Volunteer Fire Department.
Fred Fox, supporter relations manager for the Terry Fox Foundation, told The Tri-City News today (Wednesday) its board of directors has appointed an interim executive director, and will soon start to recruit a replacement for Andersen.
The foundation, which has its head office at SFU, organizes more than 10,000 runs across Canada in the Port Coquitlam hometown hero’s name and hundreds more events in 35 other countries. To date, it has raised more than $800 million, of which 79% goes to cancer research.
