The Hometown Run in Port Coquitlam (10 a.m., Hyde Creek rec centre, 1379 Laurier Ave.; 10 km, 6 km and 2 km routes; suitable for bicycles, wheelchairs, strollers, inline skates, dogs on leash) is one of the largest in Canada and will include speeches from Rolly Fox, Premier Christy Clark and Jim Terrion, a deaf Prince George resident who has raised more than $500,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation (Terrion will have a sign language interpreter with him). More than 5,000 people are expected to take part, said hometown run organizer Dave Teixeira, with Legal Limit playing the tunes for the morning. Call 604-418-9177 for information.

The Coquitlam Run (10 a.m., Blue Mountain Park, 975 King Albert Ave.; 10 km, 6 km and 2 km routes; suitable for bicycles, wheelchairs, strollers, inline skates, dogs on leash) is in its second year and is being organized by Marta Jackson. Guest speakers include cancer survivors Coun. Selina Robinson and Brenda Bagan. Fred Tinck, a retired PoCo high school principal as well as Terry Fox and Doug Alward's running coach, is also scheduled to talk to the crowd. Jackson is hoping to beat last year's totals of 433 participants and $16,000 collected; this year's goal is $20,000, she said. The house band is The Knots while a jazz trio from Douglas College will also entertain. Coquitlam firefighters and Coquitlam Express hockey cheerleaders will root on participants, and there will be children's activities on site and many prizes to be won. The Port Moody Run (10 a.m., Port Moody city hall, 100 Newport Dr.; 10 km and 5 km routes; suitable for bicycles, wheelchairs, strollers, inline skates, dogs on leash) is emceed by Gene Vickers. Organizer Coun. Mike Clay said Tony Prophet will entertain and Port Moody city fitness instructors will warm-up participants. As well, Thrifty Foods will supply fruit after the run. The Anmore Run (12 p.m., Anmore village hall, 2697 Sunnyside Rd.; 5 km and 1 km routes; suitable for bikes and strollers; not suitable for wheelchairs and inline skates) is organized by Coun. Kerri Palmer Isaak and will include music from The Undercovers as well as from local youth. The event is emceed by Mayor Heather Anderson and will end with a barbecue at the village hall.
