The Burke Mountain Naturalists are celebrating the 24th anniversary of the establishment of Pinecone Burke Provincial Park with a free guided public hike on June 8.
Participants will follow the Woodland Walk Trail, taking in highlights like Saw Blade Falls, views of Coquitlam Lake and an old-growth tree on Coho Creek. The round-trip distance for the moderate hike is 11.5 km with an elevation gain of approximately 300 m.
“You should be prepared to cross a few small creeks by easy boulder-hopping, though there will be help in corssing safely” said Victoria Otton, a Burke Mountain Naturalist.
She added that hikers should wear reliable footwear and appropriate clothing for the five-hour hike. Participants should also bring lunch and plenty of water. The hike will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine.
Due to insurance liability issues, all hikers must be 19 years or older and will be required to sign a waiver.
Call Ian at 604-939-4039 for the meeting location and to register for the hike.
