Spring break starts in SD43. Here's what city programs are left

Here’s what’s available, as of today, March 15, for city-run spring break programs in the Tri-Cities.

Spring break starts at 3 p.m. today, March 15, in School District 43 (SD43).

But if you’re looking for programs to keep your little ones busy over the next two weeks, you may be out of luck as many city-run camps and activities are now full.

Here’s what’s still available as of 2:30 p.m. today:

Coquitlam

Drop-ins

Families of all ages can drop-in for swimming, skating, mini-movers programs, family badminton and youth basketball at Coquitlam recreation centres during spring break.

Day Camps

For kids ages seven to 10, there are limited spaces available in these two camps:

  • Centennial Half Day Sports Spring Break Camp
    • March 25 to 28, 9 to 11:30 a.m. (course ID: 141520)
  • Poirier Half Day Arts and Crafts Spring Break Camp
    • March 25 to 28, 12:30 to 3 p.m. (course ID: 141499)

Day programs

There are plenty of weekday craft and discovery programs are still up for grabs. Visit coquitlam.ca/registration and click on the green "Sign Me Up" banner to open the online registration system; in the keyword search bar, type the course ID number to view the program. Alternatively, you can call 604-927-4386 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Financial assistance is available for families who are eligible.

Additionally, there are low- and no-cost programs for swimming at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Centre and the City Centre Aquatic Complex.

 

Port Coquitlam

The leisure pool at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.) reopens on Saturday, March 16, after a two-and-a-half month break to repair a broken pipe. 

You can check the website for the public swim times at PCCC and Hyde Creek Recreation Centre during spring break.

Pre-registered drop-ins to skate at Arena 3 at PCCC are:

  • Toonie skates
    • Mondays to Fridays
    • noon to 1:30 p.m. and 1:45 to 3:15 p.m. (except March 29)
  • Public skate
    • Fridays 7:30 to 9 p.m. (except March 29)
  • Family Play and Skate
    • Tuesdays to Thursdays
    • 10 to 11:30 a.m.; Fridays 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. (except March 29) and Saturdays 4:30 to 5:45 p.m.

All spring break camps run by the city are now full.


ACCESS Art Journaling

Meanwhile, tweens ages 11 to 13 can learn about art journaling with the ACCESS Youth Outreach Services.

Registration is free for the program, which takes place at Banting Middle School in Coquitlam from March 18 to 28; there are morning and afternoon sessions, lasting two hours each.

Students will be guided on topic exploration and conversation while working on art projects, and will be able to explore new art themes and techniques.

All art supplies will be provided.
