After a two-and-a-half-month closure, the pool at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) will re-open on Saturday, March 16.
The tank shut down in January to fix a broken pipe at the complex, which is located at 2150 Wilson Ave.
“The city recognizes the impact the closure of the PCCC leisure pool has had on the community and appreciates everyone’s patience during this time,” the municipality wrote in a news release.
As a result, the pool will stay open for the rest of the year rather than closing in April for its annual maintenance; staff spruced up the facility during the repairs, the city said.
As well, beginning April 2, PCCC will extend its hours of operation until 10 p.m. on weekdays and until 9 p.m. on weekends. The Terry Fox Library will close at its regular hours.
In Coquitlam....
Meanwhile, one of Coquitlam’s two public pools will shut down after spring break for its annual scrub.
Starting April 2, the tank and fitness centre at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.) will close for its annual maintenance.
The aquatic centre will reopen on May 6; the fitness hub on April 8.
The reception will open from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. from April 2 to 7 and return to regular hours on April 8.
During the closure, swimmers can head over to the City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way), across from Coquitlam City Hall, while residents wanting a workout can drop-in at other fitness classes and weight rooms at other civic facilities.
As well, the YMCA in Burquitlam (555 Emerson St.) is also open during resident-access times at special rates; YMCA membership is not required.
