Shania Twain tribute band launches 2024 with Port Moody show

It’s the first time Totally Twain has performed in Port Moody and in a theatre, said Michelle Reid who portrays Shania Twain.

The hits from one of Canada’s most successful country musicians will be covered by a tribute band in Port Moody next month.

Totally Twain will be at the Inlet Theatre on Friday, Feb. 23, to perform such classics as “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” “You’re Still The One” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” at an all-ages concert.

White Rock resident Michelle Reid, who portrays Twain, told the Tri-City News today, Jan. 11, that she’ll be making six costume changes, sporting some of Twain’s most iconic outfits — from animal prints to sequins — with a signature cowboy hat.

“It’s a high-energy show that’s very Vegas in style,” Reid said. “We tried to go more on the glam side, with a lot of dazzle.”

The Port Moody gig is the first of the year for Totally Twain, which also includes:

  • Wally Kazakow on bass guitar
  • Steve Goodall on guitar
  • Kevan Van Keith on drums
  • Katie Stewart on fiddle

It’s also the first time Totally Twain has performed in Port Moody and in a theatre.

Since it formed during the pandemic in 2021, the tribute band has mostly played in country bars and at corporate events.

Its inaugural concert was on April 9, 2022, the day after the provincial government lifted the requirement for COVID-19 passports; the show drew more than 350 people to the Cloverdale legion.

“It’s been a slam dunk since then,” Reid said.

“We had an incredibly successful year last year, with 90 per cent of our shows sold out, and we’re hoping to do the same or better in 2024.”

The group also wants to continue with its community give-back, too. Last year, it offered goodwill to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank through its concerts.

Reid said the band is looking to reach out more into Lower Mainland suburbs following the success of other tribute acts, like Fleetwood Magic at the Inlet Theatre last fall.

Reid talked about her love for Twain and sharing her music.

“She’s a beautiful woman and she has a spark to her. In the last few years, she’s been humble and personable. She’s down-to-earth and believes in human rights. She checks all the boxes for me and for so many others.”

Tickets are $42 plus tax to see Totally Twain at the Inlet Theatre (inside Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr., Port Moody) on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. Tickets can be bought via the Brown Paper Tickets website.
