An alert has been issued for a series of unauthorized sexual enhancement products recently seized from a Port Coquitlam business.
Health Canada inspectors retrieved 14 products from Love Secret Sex Shop (2279 Elgin Ave.), according to a statement from the national agency today (July 12).
It adds residents who purchased the products to stop using them right away as they may pose serious health risks.
Half of the products are labelled to contain yohimbe, which may result in "serious adverse reactions" to those with high blood pressure or heart, kidney or liver disease.
Health Canada explains yohimbe is a prescription drug that should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
Side effects include increased blood pressure and heart rate, anxiety, dizziness, tremors, headache, nausea and sleep disorders.
Meanwhile, the rest are said to contain either sildenafil, hydroxythiohomosildenafil and/or tadalafil — all are prescription drugs that treat erectile dysfunction, but could potentially cause life-threatening low blood pressure.
Those who may be concerned for their health are advise to consult with a healthcare professional, and to report any unauthorized products to Health Canada.
