It was a Kelowna sweep for both high school football teams in the Tri-Cities Friday, Nov. 8.
But not the winning kind.
The Kelowna Owls defeated the Centennial Centaurs 27-7 in their wildcard game in Coquitlam, while Port Coquitlam’s Terry Fox Ravens also ended its season, with a 40-6 loss to the Rutland Thunder in Kelowna.
At Centennial, the Centaurs couldn’t shake the inconsistency that dogged the team all season, said head coach Dino Geremia.
“Kelowna was a summary of our season,” he said. “At key points, we needed a stop and they were able to convert.”
In fact, had Centennial been able to do the same on the three occasions they were within 10 years of the end zone, the result might have been different, said Geremia.
Only Doran Geremia was able to break through, scoring the Centaurs only touchdown then kicking the extra point. He also had an interception.
In Kelowna, the Ravens had no answer to Thunder receiver Lukas Seigler, who hauled in eight passes for 127 yards to lead Rutland to its wildcard win.
In total, Thunder quarterback Carter Cook completed 17 of his 28 passes for 270 yards while Terry Fox pivot Zach Golab was successful on 10 of 23 throws for just 115 yards.
Fox’s junior varsity team was also ousted by Rutland, 35-0, last Wednesday, Nov. 6.
The Centaurs’ JV team, however, will play a quarter-final game against South Delta at Minoru Park on Wednesday, Nov. 13, after the team defeated Sardis, 34-14 in their wildcard showdown.
