Photos: Late goals lift Coquitlam's Centennial Centaurs to senior boys' soccer win

Centennial won its first match of the season while the Pinetree Timberwolves fell to 0-2.

A pair of goals late in the second half lifted the Centennial Centaurs to a 2-0 win over the Pinetree Timberwolves in Fraser North senior boys soccer on Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Centennial turf field.

Despite conceding much of the match’s run of play to the Timberwolves, it was Centennial’s Eddie Ferrier who broke through first, converting a pass from Raffi Broun with seven minutes left in the second half.

Three minutes later, the Centaurs doubled its margin when Royden Seon scored on a semi-breakaway off a pass from Gabe Quiring.

Timberwolves coach Julianna Bosa said while the outcome was disappointing for her side, she was encouraged by her players’ effort.

“Just a few unlucky chances that changed the result of the game,” she said, adding Pinetree’s defence of Roberto Canovas, Kourosh Afsharasi, and Achillies Nikolas Karakas “did a great job working as a unit and cleaning up holes.”

The win was the first of the young season for Centennial, after an opening 1-0 loss to the Riverside Rapids on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Pinetree’s record falls to 0-2 after it lost its season opener 3-2 to the Port Moody Blues.
