Scott Creek middle school in Coquitlam has been evacuated for a bomb threat.

Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung said the school received the threat just after 8 a.m. this morning. Several officers and bomb-sniffing dogs were immediately sent to the scene and are searching the area to make sure it's safe to re-enter the school.

On the School District 43 website, the following statement has been made: "Under the direction of the RCMP, students and staff at Scott Creek Middle School are being locked out of the building as a precautionary measure."

Parents are being asked to keep students at home until further notice although they may still drop off students at the school if suitable arrangements cannot be made.

Students currently at the school have been evacuated and are being cared for by school staff on the field. Parents are asked to not pick up their student if they are already at school.

Meanwhile, the school will remain closed until deemed safe to re-enter by the RCMP. The timeline for this is currently unknown. Please keep checking our website for more information.
