Save-On-Foods will move into the Thrifty Foods' Austin Station location May 25 and will open in the fall after an extensive renovation.

Save-On-Foods will be moving into the Coquitlam Thrifty Foods store location at Austin Station, with a possession date set for May 25, and a fall opening.

In a press release, the Overwaitea Food Group stated the new Save-On Foods will employ approximately 120 people and will provide customers with popular and unique store brands and an industry-leading online grocery shopping experience.

The deal was reached after Thrifty Foods opted to move out with an April 25 store closure date and took place despite a campaign to keep the Thrifty Food's store.

Property owner Aragon Properties stated that is proud to partner with a reputable B.C. brand that would preserve jobs of existing employees and connect with the local community to gather feedback about what they want in a grocery store.

Current Thrifty Foods employees will get top priority during the hiring process, the press release said.
