Riot posters distributed in Tri-Cities

The Coquitlam RCMP have been handing out Riot Round-up posters throughout the community in an effort to track down and identify suspects in last year's Stanley Cup riot.

The posters feature photographs of 95 people believed to be involved in the rioting that took place on June 15 as well as five "Most Wanted" individuals. Recipients are encouraged to go to the Integrated Riot Investigation Team's website - riot2011.vpd.ca -where they can write in the names of the suspects.

"I'm very proud to see the energy from our members and volunteers in this campaign," said Insp. Paulette Freill of the Coquitlam RCMP. "Unquestionably, the interest of the public shows our residents still care a great deal about what happened."

Thousands of the flyers were handed out in downtown Port Coquitlam, the Douglas College campus and the bus loop in Coquitlam.

According to police, several people who received the posters on Thursday recognized some of the photographs and were able to identify them for the authorities.

"Some even phoned the Vancouver Police Department's hotline right away after looking at the poster," said Coquitlam RCMP Const. Erica Saurette. "I think about10 alleged rioters were known by some of the people that I spoke to by the end of the day."

Anyone with any information about the June 15 Stanley Cup Riots are urged to contact the Vancouver Police Department at 604-717-9999 or email [email protected].
