Three residents have been infected with influenza at a Port Coquitlam nursing home.
That's what Fraser Health confirms with the Tri-City News as a respiratory illness outbreak was declared at Hawthorne Seniors Care Community last Friday (April 21).
In a statement, spokesperson Dixon Tam says staff with the authority are working at the site to implement control measures to prevent further potential spread.
The source of transmission was not made available, as of this publication (April 27).
This includes providing an anti-viral treatment to unaffected residents and to those who are infected "under the direction of their physician," Tam explains, while Hawthorne staff enhance its cleaning and infection-control measures.
Designated visitors are also being restricted — as well as movement between the impacted areas — to reduce the chances of exposure, but essential visits are still allowed.
The Hawthorne Seniors Care Community (2111 Hawthorne Ave.) is owned and operated by the Port Coquitlam Seniors Citizens' Housing Society.
The last outbreak it last endured involved COVID-19 in early January when five cases were detected inside the lodge facility, including one resident and four staff members.
It was the third outbreak of the virus since the pandemic began in March 2020, and ended on Jan. 11 after a 12-day declaration by Fraser Health.
COVID-19 OUTBREAK OVER
Meanwhile, a COVID-19 outbreak is now over at Eagle Ridge Hospital.
It's still not known how many cases were associated within an acute-care medicine unit at the Port Moody facility.
However, there were no deaths linked to the virus, Fraser Health confirms to the Tri-City News.
This was the fifth outbreak of COVID-19 within Eagle Ridge Hospital, and lasted for just under three weeks.
Elsewhere, Ridge Meadows Hospital is under a COVID-19 outbreak in one of its acute care units as of April 14, as well as Burnaby's George Derby long-term care centre since April 11.
