As difficult as it may be, it's never too early to start thinking about life after summer.
Work and school schedules begin to ramp up in September, and some may be looking at public recreational and arts classes for their families to pass the time.
Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody will soon give residents the chance to plan ahead by opening up registration for fall programming.
Each community is set to offer a variety of pre-registration and drop-in programming for all ages; from day camps, swimming and skating lessons to art classes, yoga and seniors activities.
Coquitlam
Coquitlam residents will get a sneak peek at local swimming and skating lessons tomorrow (July 21), and Aug. 14 for general recreation, fitness and park programs.
Registration will officially open July 26 and Aug. 16 at 8:30 a.m. respectively.
Coquitlam community recreation manager Judy Hamanishi said residents lookng to sign up for swimming and skating are reminded that they can only apply for one set at a time.
"Registration for the next set of lessons can be done on the last day of the current set," she explained in a statement.
"Participants who are registered in more than one lesson set or in future lesson sets prior to current completion will be withdrawn from a program."
Coquitlam residents can apply any time online once registration goes live. You can also call 604-927-4386 weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Interested participants can also apply in-person during normal operating hours at the following civic facilities, where the fall programs will take place:
- City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way)
- Dogwood Pavilion (1655 Winslow Ave.)
- Glen Pine Pavilion (1200 Glen Pine Court)
- Maillardville Community Centre (1200 Cartier Ave.)
- Pinetree Community Centre (1260 Pinetree Way)

Port Coquitlam
Fall program registration in Port Coquitlam is set to open at 8 a.m. on July 25 for local residents, and 8 a.m. on July 28 for the general public.

Notable programs include:
Day camps (Ages three to 17)
- Pro-D Day and Winter Break Camps are back. Learn to skate, have a full day of fun and participate in games, crafts, swimming, and other themed activities. Half-day and full-day camps are available.
Seniors activities (Adults 60+)
- There is so much to enjoy this fall for seniors. From Armchair Travel, Dance Parties, and holiday socials.
Swimming Lessons (All ages)
- Swim lessons will be available for a variety of swim levels, including Parent and Tot, Preschool, Swimmer, and Advanced Aquatics.
Public Skating programs and lessons (All ages)
- Take private or group lessons to perfect your skating technique.
Fitness (All ages)
- A variety of aerobics classes, yoga, and wellness classes for all fitness abilities.

Meanwhile, Port Moody residents still have some time to prepare for registering for fall events and programs.
An advanced preview of classes and courses available this year will be seen at 8 a.m. on July 27.
Registration goes live online at 8 a.m. on Aug. 1. You can register by phone starting at 8 a.m. on Aug. 2.
