First responders and emergency service workers are hoping to establish a better connection with Tri-Cities residents and families.
This, by demonstrating what they actually do on a daily basis — like operating a fire truck, preparing a tank for a big bust or even disarming explosive devices.
RCMP and the City of Coquitlam are gearing up to host a free "show n' shine" on Friday (July 21).
Live-action demonstrations and information booths will be set up by 15 different agencies at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.).
The public can expect several emergency response vehicles like RCMP cruisers, fire trucks and ambulances.
"The Coquitlam RCMP Show n' Shine gives you and your family the chance to explore, learn, connect and have fun with Coquitlam's Emergency Service teams," explained Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins.
Hodgins said groups on site will encourage interested visitors to ask questions about their services.
Agencies listed to be part of the "show n' shine" include:
- RCMP
- Coquitlam Fire/Rescue
- Coquitlam Search and Rescue
- Coquitlam Bylaws Enforcement
- Tri-City Speed Watch
- BC Sheriff Service (BCSS)
- BC Conservation Officer Service (COS)
- BC Ambulance Service (BCAS)
- Integrated Emergency Response Unit (IERT)
- RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU)
- Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS)
- Rural Policing

Teapressu will be parking its food truck at the four-hour show, while Avalon Valley will provide live music. The event also coincides with the RCMP's 150th anniversary.
The Emergency Services Show n' Shine is set for July 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the north parking lot and inside Arena 1 at the Poirier Complex.
