The RCMP have called off their search for a Coquitlam man who disappeared in the wilderness above North Vancouver nearly two weeks ago.
Mark Smith, 32, was last seen Sunday, May 1, wearing blue jeans, running shoes, a light-coloured shirt and dark jacket. Smith's vehicle was found May 2, abandoned at the north end of Riverside Drive near the Baden Powell Trail in North Vancouver.
North Van RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Peter Devries told The Tri-City News Thursday that police called off their search on May 9 after they felt they had exhausted the search field. Devries said that Smith grew up in the area where he disappeared and likely knew the terrain quite well.
The RCMP, in conjunction with North Shore Rescue and the Canadian Coast Guard, conducted extensive searches of the North Shore waterways and wilderness, even bringing in scuba diving teams and the RCMP's Air 1 helicopter to assist in the search.
Smith is described as a Caucasian man, 5'10" tall and weighing 175 lb.
Anyone with information on Smith's whereabouts is asked to call the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311.
