A “conversation” with candidates vying to represent Port Moody–Burquitlam in the 2024 provincial election will be missing one voice.
As of this publication, Oct. 2, Conservative candidate Kerry van Aswegen won’t be attending the event, that is being hosted by The Residents of Pleasantside and Ioco Community Association (TROPICA), tomorrow, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Old Orchard Hall (646 Bentley Rd.) in Port Moody.
Instead, said moderator Robert Simons, BC NDP candidate Rick Glumac and Green Party challenger Samantha Agtarap will have the opportunity to discuss their party’s platforms and personal positions on provincial issues like housing, health care and Indigenous relations while also addressing local concerns such as infrastructure to support growing populations as well as transportation and transit challenges.
Glumac is seeking a third term in the Legislature while Agtarap is currently a Port Moody city councillor.
Simons said the conversational format is meant to foster a more fulsome discussion about topics rather than just generate talking points in a debate.
He said audience members will be able to submit their own topics as well.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the discussion expected to last from 7 to 8 p.m.
A livestream feed is also being put in place.
