Port Moody’s Fiona Hall said in her bio she wanted to do better than the the two silver medals and a bronze she earned in skiing events at the 2023 BC Special Olympics Winter Games.
She recently did just that, and on a much bigger stage.
Hall won three gold medals at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games that were held in Calgary Feb. 27 to March 2. She finished atop the podium in the women’s intermediate giant slalom, intermediate super G, and intermediate slalom events.
Hall’s success contributed to the 54 gold medals, 45 silver and 36 bronze won by the 141 athletes that represented British Columbia at the national competition which is held every four years.
Other local medal winners include:
- Ariel Taylor won gold in women’s 100m snowshoeing, silver in the 200m and bronze in the 400m event. She was also part of the team that won silver in the women’s 4x100m relay
- Brad LaForce won silver medals in the men’s 1,000m, 777m, 500m and 333m speed skating races
- Nicholas Libera won bronze in the men’s 1,000m, 777m and 333m races
The winter games competition is comprised of eight sports:

- Floor hockey
- Snowshoeing
- Speed skating
“The athletes gave it their all during competition, as they achieved many personal bests and podium finishes in their sports,” said Team BC’s chef de mission, Michelle Cruikshank, in a news release.
