Port Moody's Ryan Johansen has been waived by the Philadelphia Flyers shortly after the NHL acquired him in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.

Port Moody NHLer Ryan Johansen has been sent to play for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the American Hockey League. The team is the minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers

The move comes 24 hours after a tumultuous Wednesday when the 31-year-old centerman was traded by the Colorado Avalance to the Flyers than immediately placed on waivers.

Johansen was dealt to the Flyers along with a first-round selection in the 2025 NHL entry draft for defenceman Sean Walker and a fifth-round pick in the 2026 draft.

Johansen is in the seventh season of an eight-year contract worth $64 million. He has 13 goals and 10 assists in 63 games this season.

Johansen broke into the NHL in 2011 with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Flyers are coached by John Tortorella, who Johansen also played for in Columbus and who benched him in the 2015-16 season before he was traded to Nashville for Seth Jones. He played there for seven seasons.

In 2023, Johansen was traded again to the Avalanche with Nashville continuing to pay half his remaining contract.
