The Community Ventures Society is one of several organizations that have benefitted from Port Moody's annual community grants program.

The clock is ticking for Port Moody groups that want take advantage of the city’s community grants program.

All applications must be submitted by Jan. 31, 2025.

The program provides financial assistance for projects that benefit Port Moody residents or contributed to the general interest of the community.

The grants are available in three streams:

  • $20,000 is available in general community grants that apply to a wide range of projects
    • Individual awards up to $3,000
  • $20,000 is available in arts, culture and heritage grants to support performances, projects and initiatives that enhance cultural experiences for residents and visitors
    • Individual awards up to $5,000
  • $5,000 goes towards artists grants that emerging Port Moody artists can use to grow their skills, complete a project, prepare an exhibition or develop promotional material
    • Individual awards go up to $1,000

Grant applications are reviewed by members of the city’s citizen advisory group and approved by council based upon a series of general principles, including:

  • availability of funds budgeted for grants and donations;
  • extent to which a demonstrated need in the community will be addressed and to which the City’s corporate goals and objectives are met;
  • degree to which the grant will promote the well-being and quality of life of Port Moody residents;
  • degree to which funding will be used for the community as a whole;
  • extent to which the organization has attempted to obtain other sources of funding (e.g. through corporate sponsorships or fundraising campaigns);
  • extent to which the funds are spent in Port Moody;
  • needs of the organization requesting funding;
  • extent to which any benefits will be directed to support equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation initiatives;
  • extent to which any benefits will be directed to support accessibility initiatives;
  • extent to which volunteers are involved and community spirit is fostered; and
  • contribution to arts, culture, and heritage in the community (for applications to the artist grants and arts, culture, and heritage grants streams)

Last year's grant program distributed $18,000 to more than a dozen community groups, along with almost $2,800 to three artists and another $9,910 to three cultural organizations, including $5,000 to help pay musicians performing in the Summer Sunday concert series at Rocky Point Park.
