Port Moody police arrested a suspect after the car he was driving ended up on a median on Ioco Road near Suter Brook Way Wednesday afternoon.
Police chased the suspect on foot in a case involving stolen license plates from Washington and placed him in custody.
Following the arrest, PMPD sent out a tweet asking drivers to be patient while members conducted an investigation.
During the incident, several police cruisers and members of the Port Moody fire department arrived on scene.
Community relations officer Const. Jason Maschke told The Tri-City News that a police officer driving north-bound on Ioco Road spotted a suspicious-looking man in a black Nissan sedan.
The sedan, travelling south-bound, tried to speed away but clipped another car and landed on a grassy median. The driver then fled but was arrested at St. Johns and Moray streets after witnesses told officers which direction the man was running.
The suspect, a 35-year-old Surrey man known to police, was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and prohibited driving as well as possession of stolen property because of the stolen plates.
To alert motorists, PMPD sent out the following tweet Wednesday afternoon:
Traffic is congested along Ioco Road near Suterbrook Way. Pls consider alternative routes as @PortMoodyPD officers work through a minor crash investigation, involving stolen property.
