A Port Moody duplex was badly damaged by fire late Sunday night.
The 911 call came in shortly after midnight for the fire at the Tuxedo Drive duplex. PoMo Fire Chief Remo Faedo said it appears the fire started at the back of the duplex underneath the deck, where there was a pile of wood chips.
"The fire found its way up the building and got up into the attic space, that's where a lot of the damage occurred," Faedo said.
Fire department and insurance company investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire, which is estimated to have caused about $200,000 in damage.
Residents on both sides of the duplex were already safely out of the house when fire fighters arrived. The damage is more significant on one side but Faedo said residents on the other side of the duplex haven't been able to move back in due to the smell of smoke.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury battling the blaze.
