New fees and a plan to regulate pleasure craft mooring in Port Moody inlet will receive more public input before the city adopts a strategy aimed at preventing live-aboards, illegal sewage dumping and derelict vessels from mooring in the inlet.
Under the proposal developed by Port Metro Vancouver and the city, and reviewed by council at a committee of the whole meeting Tuesday, the harbour authority would install buoys marking a designated anchorage area and the city would manage it and collect fees of $9.50 a night or $1,032 a year based on a 25-foot pleasure craft owned by a PoMo resident.
Costs to manage the project would be about $10,000 a year, including insurance, but the city expects to collect about $12,000 in fees to recover those costs. Any surplus would be placed in reserve to offset future deficit, replace the cardinal buoys or be used for future harbour-improvement projects.
