A late three-pointer proved the difference as the St. George’s Saints defeated the Terry Fox Ravens 78-75 in their BC School Sports AAAA boys basketball championships consolation final Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.
The result means the Saints claim third place while Fox finishes fourth.
Coming off a dispiriting 28-point loss to the Dover Bay Dolphins in Friday’s semi-finals, the Ravens played with poise and confidence against the Saints, which had pushed eventual two-time champions Spectrum to the brink in their semi-final.
Fox led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter, 40-32 at the half and 59-58 heading into the final period.
A pair of free throws put St. George’s in front for the first time early in the fourth quarter.
The final 10 minutes proved a seesaw battle as the teams exchanged the lead nine times until the Saints were able to score the last five points to tie the score and then claim victory.
Dorjan Glagovic scored 39 points to lead St. George’s while Jayson Ikani was the Ravens’ top scorer with 28.
Earlier in the day, the Centennial Centaurs defeated the Heritage Woods Kodiaks 64-60 to claim ninth place in the 16-team tournament while the Kodiaks finished tenth.
