Jessica Williams, of Port Coquitlam, is Canada's newest millionaire after winning $3.4 million in a Lotto 6/49 draw this week.
Williams, 36, who is an account manager and lives in Port Coquitlam with her 15-year-old son, said she was shaking like a leaf when she picked up the cheque today, Friday, and plans to out for "a nice steak dinner" with her family.
Williams discovered the win after filling her car at the gas station while heading back to work on the morning of Jan. 3. However, she kept the news to herself until today.
"I had been out grocery shopping on New Year's Day when I bought my ticket," explained Williams. "Like everybody else, I've always hoped and prayed that I would win big one day."
"Immediately after leaving the gas station I just sat in my car and cried," described Williams. "I don't even remember yesterday. I'm still numb."
The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart in Coquitlam.
"All I've ever wanted is to own my own place and have my very own car," added Williams. "I can't wait to go shopping."
Currently a renter, Williams plans to purchase a condo and maybe an SUV to replace her leased compact car. She also plans to help family and do some traveling.
Most of the last 24 hours has been spent in a daze, and Williams admitted she hasn't been able to eat or sleep but she has the support of her dad, Terry, a Coquitlam resident, and her brother, Ben, who lives in New Westminster.
Her son is also in shock, she said, "His first quote was 'do I get to go to college.'"
