Looking for a few ideas to reduce the amount of trash you're sending to the landfill?

Look no further than a garbage truck in Port Coquitlam, where the city has begun to roll out new vehicle graphics that showcase local resident's and their waste-loss tips.

Five new graphics featuring the contestants in last spring's Waste-Loss Challenge are being installed on the side of waste collection vehicles this month. The images are part of Port Coquitlam's efforts to encourage residents to reduce what they send to the landfill.

"Taxpayers see a direct benefit from these efforts," said the city in a press release. "The city has been able to maintain waste collection fees at 2009 levels because diversion of waste away from the landfill has offset the continual increases in garbage dumping fees."

Some of the suggestions that have been emblazoned on the trucks include:

making it fun and getting the whole family involved;

getting organized and setting up handy sorting bins;

shop smart and reduce the bags and packaging:

and ensure that waste is sorted in the proper bin.
