Port Coquitlam councillors will be holding a special council meeting on Monday in order to vote on the first three readings of the 2012-2016 financial plan.
The document outlines the city's spending priorities for the next five years and includes a 2.97% property tax increase for this year.
Included in the plan is a new artificial turf field, playground and trail improvements and upgrades to the city's cemetery. There are also funds set aside for the Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society and several environmental initiatives that include waste source separation in city parks.
Earlier this week Mayor Greg Moore said the city worked to keep the tax increase to a minimum, after public consultation found that most residents wanted the city to "do more with less."
However, the lower rate hike means that council will not be hiring two new police officers and three firefighters that were included in an early draft of the budget.
Infrastructure replacement funding has also been cut, down from the $250,000 initially budgeted to $140,000.
Also, funding for the Port Coquitlam Community Foundation was also reduced from $50,000 to $35,000, while money for the city's Sports Alliance was cut in half, from $30,000 to $15,000.
The special meeting will be held Monday night at 4:30 p.m. in council chambers.
