Former Port Moody fire chief Jeff Lambert will be Vancouver Island-bound in the coming days as he prepares to take over as chief of the Victoria Fire Department.

Lambert told The Tri-City News Tuesday that he expects to miss the Port Moody fire staff and the community he served as chief for six years, but he's excited to be leading the larger Victoria department and to meet all the people and the challenges that go along with it.

"And it's the capital city of British Columbia, so not everyone can lay claim to that. It's going to be an exciting opportunity for me," Lambert said.

It's a bit of a homecoming for Lambert who grew up in Powell River, the small B.C. mainland town which is nonetheless reliant on ferries to and from Vancouver Island.

Lambert will replace retiring Victoria chief Doug Angrove who served for five years as the Victoria chief after two years as deputy chief.
