Another Port Coquitlam resident has been charged in connection with the 2011 Stanley Cup riot.
Crown counsel announced Monday it had approved 18 more charges against seven suspected rioters, bringing the total to 171 criminal charges against 64 suspects.
The young man, who is 17 years old and can't be identified under the Young Offender's Act, is facing the most serious charges of the latest group: participating in a riot, mischief and break and enter. Three other young offenders, including a 15-year-old Langley boy, a 16-year-old Burnaby boy and a 16-year-old girl, also from Burnaby, are charged with participating in a riot and mischief.
The rest of the group includes men in their early to mid-20s from Vancouver, Mission and Surrey; they're also charged with participating in a riot, mischief and one count of disguise with intent against the Surrey man.
Vancouver Police Insp. Les Yeo, head of the Stanley Cup riot investigation, also unveiled a transit shelter poster at the corner of Davie and Nicola streets. Shelters across Vancouver will feature a Riot Roundup poster carrying the message "Busted" throughout the next month.
"This is just another investigative strategy developed to encourage people to go to our website at riot2011.vpd.ca," Yeo said in a release. "Identifiable pictures continue to sit on our website and we need the public's help in putting names to these suspected rioters."
A second man, 19-year-old Emmanuel Alviar of Surrey, has also pleaded guilty to participating in a riot. He'll be sentenced May 3.
Coquitlam'sRyan Dickinson was the first to plead guilty for his part in the June 2011 riot that took place after the Vancouver Canucks lost in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. He was recently sentenced to 17 months in prison for participating in the riot and for breaching bail conditions stemming from an earlier charge.
The Riot Investigation Team has recommended 432 criminal charges against 150 suspected rioters.
