A Port Coquitlam pair will be in court tomorow (Thursday) after being charged in connection with a string of break-ins at homes on Westwood Plateau.
Police arrested the duo after a three-month investigation linking a number of similar break-and-enters in the north Coquitlam neighbourhood.
Here's what they did: The well-dressed female suspect would knock on a door and, if nobody answered, her male partner would break into the house through a back door or a window, Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung said.
Charged with break and enter and possession of a break-in instrument are Mark Wruth, 31, and Alysha McCarthy, 25. Both are currently on bail.
Chung said it isn't easy to spot a thief. "Criminals don't always look shady, dirty or suspicious. They could look like clean-cut, well-dressed teenagers or professionals," he said in a release.
He also asked residents to be on guard when strangers knock on your door.
"Quickly jot down what the person looks like and report the suspicious occurrence by calling our non-emergency number at 604-945-1550," Chung said, adding, "Everyone comes together in the project to make these successful apprehensions - the public who take the time to report the crime, the complaint takers and patrol officers who make detailed notes and collect valuable evidence, and the specialized units who connect the dots."
