There was a lot of finger-licking and lip smacking Friday, July 19, at the first day of RibFest at Port Moody's Rocky Point Park.
Never mind the teeth poking to extract slivers of tender pork or corn kernels.
Lines for sauce-slathered ribs, brisket, chicken and pulled pork were steady in the hot sunshine as seven competitive ribbers barked, cajoled and enticed to lure hungry customers to pits. Each displayed impressive arrays of trophies won at competitions across North America. Several offered free samples.
Away from the carnival atmosphere of the ribbers area, visitors were able to relax and enjoy their boxes and plates of messy meat, beans, slaw and corn in shaded seating areas. A steady roster of local cover and tribute bands entertained them from the Pacific Coast Terminal stage while younger visitors were able to burn off energy at the family zone, scaling a climbing wall or playing life-size foosball.
The event is the largest annual fundraiser for Port Moody Rotary, with proceeds from donations at the front gate, as well as the giant 50/50 draw, helping support various programs in the community.
RibFest continues Saturday and Sunday, July 20 and 21, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
