Port Moody’s annual RibFest is still six weeks away, but you can get a taste right away.

Though it could fill your wallet instead of your belly.

The 50/50 draw that runs in conjunction with the annual festival of smokey proteins has already launched online.

The raffle, which will be held Aug. 2 at the St. James’s Well pub in NewPort Village, promises a maximum payout of $112,500 to the winner depending on ticket sales. Currently the jackpot is more than $5,000.

Proceeds from the draw help support various programs and projects run by the four Rotary clubs in the Tri-Cities — Port Moody, Port Coquitlam Centennial, Coquitlam and Coquitlam Sunrise.

Those programs include the distribution of holiday hampers to families in need, sending kids to Jubilee Kids Camp and the Starfish Pack breakfast and lunch programs in local schools.

As well, the clubs are involved with various initiatives to enhance parks and trails, help seniors and support individuals battling addiction.

Tickets for the draw will also be available at RibFest, which is scheduled to run from July 19 to 21 at Rocky Point Park.

The event has become a summer ritual for more than 50,000 visitors annually since it launched in 2015 who line up to indulge in sticky offerings of seven championship teams of ribbers, craft beers from Port Moody’s renowned Brewers Row and live music from local bands like Los Meatballs, Pop Junkies and Soulstream.

There’s also a family zone with toys, games and books for younger BBQ fans to enjoy.
